Great.

Super thanks to Claire over at Polkadot Pretties for organizing this fantastic blog hop.

Today you are here

And here’s your next stop
3rd Dec – Leslie @ House on the Way
I am sharing a favourite Christmas craft of ours, decorating the gingerbread house!
I am not adventurous enough to make my own gingerbread house so I picked up a kit.
I purchased this one at Winners.
Here’s the yummy candy that came with it, so pretty!
And here are the pieces all laid out. I used thick paper for our base but you can dress it up as much as you like, perhaps you have a fancy pedestal stand to display your house on!
I prepared my frosting using the package directions and spooned it in a frosting bag and added the frosting tip that came with the kit. (Any round 1/2” opening tip will do)
And then I handed it over to my Daughter and she had a barrel of fun creating her 2012 Gingerbread house!
First she started with one end, adding frosting to 3 edges as shown above.
Then she added frosting to one side piece and put that in place. And then repeat for the other end and side and then you’ll have your house together minus the roof.
She piped frosting along the edge of the roof and laid one roof on at a time.
Cans from your pantry work great at keeping the roof in place while the frosting is setting.
Pipe more frosting around all outside seams as you can see below so your house is extra strong!
And now it’s decorating time!
Use the frosting to attach all candy.
I left all decorating decisions up to her and boy did it ever turn out great!
It’s hard not to take a big bite right out of the side!
All those yummy gum balls, mmmmm….
So festive!
This is a great weekend afternoon activity. Play your favourite Christmas music and have a holiday treat while decorating your gingerbread house!
Here are a couple of pictures that my Daughter snapped of the house, she’s becoming quite the photographer!
Wouldn’t the one below make a great desktop background picture?
Thanks again Claire for this fantastic series, we’ll have a flurry of ideas for December Christmas Crafting!
Don’t forget to pop over to see Leslie tomorrow @ House on the Way!

When teaching 1st grade, this is the one all day event that the kids loved to do more than anything else. And they would talk about it the rest of the year!! Of course we wrote about what we would use to build our houses and draw designs, then write about what we thought about our houses and took pictures of the kids as they built their houses. At the end – each child had a book about building a Ginger Bread House!

Such a cute little house. Every year, my daughter makes one with her grandma and it is one of her favorite Christmas traditions.

That is so pretty! I’m thinking my 5 year old GD would love helping with one of these!
So cute!!! She did a great job!! We are planning to do some tomorrow night. I bought a kit from Ikea but it didn’t come with any candy or icing so we’ll have to make our own icing and find some candy around the house.
Wow, it’s so pretty and colorful! You guys did a great job.
