Hi! My name is Brooke Duncan. You can usually find me over at Blissful Roots, but today I’m thrilled to be here at Alderberry Hill. I love visiting Sarah, and taking in all her creativity!
A little bit about me. I’m married to the kindest person I know- my husband Christian of 12 years. We have three young boys (six-year-old twins and a three-year-old) who keep us hopping, and ever so happy. I’m a former first grade teacher, crafter, holiday fanatic, runner, nature lover, and cookbook reader (I read them like novels).
On with my post. I was at my neighbor’s house last year, and this quote was sitting right in the middle of her coffee table in her living room. It was one of the first things I noticed in her home. I loved it so much that I pulled out the little notebook I keep in my purse and wrote it down right then and there.
As I thought about this quote, the first thing that popped into my head was my three boys. They are good boys, but boys will be boys. They could probably spend 90% of their days in time out if I focused on every little thing they did wrong. Some days are like that at our house, and I’m not saying I’m perfect at this, but I’ve learned (through teaching, and now parenting) that the more you focus on the positive, the more you see it. My boys may do a thousand wonderful things in a day, but if I’m focused on all the naughty things they do, I miss the good things. This can be applied to any relationship or situation in our lives. If we focus on the negative, that’s what we’ll see. If we choose to seek out the positive, we’ll be pleasantly surprised with all the good we find. There is so much good out there, we just need to turn our focus towards it.

I printed out my quote, (I made it small, 60% of the original size) mounted it on a piece of scrapbook paper, and then clipped it to a chicken wire memory board I have. You could also frame it, put it on a magnet board, put in on your bathroom mirror- wherever you fancy. I like putting quotes like this where I can see them often. The more I see them, the more chances I have of being reminded about what I need to be focused on.
