Countdown To Halloween

pm3088 1024x848 Countdown To Halloween

This countdown to Halloween sign is one of my most favourite crafts I have made so far this year for Halloween.

While out shopping one day I saw a Halloween countdown sign that had an owl on it and I fell in love, I actually picked it up prepared to purchase it. After walking around the store for a few minutes I looked down at the sign in my hand and said to myself “I can make this”. So I put the sign back and hopped in the car and headed to Michaels.

Supplies needed for this project:

1 12×12 piece of MDF

1 12×12 sheet of decorative scrapbook paper

1 12×12 sheet of Kraft cardstock

2 sheets of black cardstock, 8×10 or larger (if using cutting machine)

Number embellishments & stickers (if not using cutting machine)

Black ink pad

Triangle sponge

Spray Adhesive

2 mini hook screws

So here I have my 12×12 piece of MDF. I painted it black  everywhere but the middle since the scrapbook paper will cover that part there was no need to waste the paint!

While I was waiting for the paint to dry I cut out my tags on Kraft cardstock using my Silhouette.

I also cut out the numbers I would need on black cardstock, I used the font Saddlebag – download here.

I distressed the edges of the tags using a triangle sponge with black ink on it. Simply rub gently along the edges to get the desired effect.

Then I sprayed the MDF with spray Adhesive and laid my decorative scrapbook paper on top, pressing down and smoothing out so there were no bubbles.

I also found an owl in the Silhouette shop and cut it out as well in black cardstock. I sized my owl to fit perfectly between the scroll design that was on my decorative scrapbook paper.

For the words “Countdown to Halloween” I used the Pottery Barn font – download here. These letters were also cut with my Silhouette machine.

I purchased the little brass hook screws at Michaels and screwed them in by hand, MDF is very soft.

I distressed the entire sign just a little with the triangle sponge and black ink. The owl I filled in with the black ink, again using the sponge, just to make it a little more solid.
